Atsushi Kagaは1978年生まれ。2005年にアート＆デザイン国立大学（ダブリン）を修了。アメリカやブラジルでの「アーティスト・イン・レジデンス」に参加するほか、ダブリンを中心として、ニューヨークやボストンでの個展、グループ展などで作品を発表してきた。アイルランド文化の影響を思わせる風刺の効いたナラティブの上に成り立ち、鏡の中の自分に向かって話しかけるウサギ、頭だけのパンダ、足を怪我したクマなど、コミックの登場人物のような個性的なキャラクターたちをモチーフとして奇想天外な世界を生み出す.
Atsushi Kaga studied at the Tama Art Institute in Tokyo and at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin until 2005. Kaga’s colourful, comic-like paintings are populated with droll characters, led by Usacchi, the artist’s alter ego. Usacchi is a lovable but mischievous rabbit, his friend Kumacchi is a drug-addicted bear who was injured in a car accident. Thus, at second glance, the viewer discovers the very human personalities of Kaga’s characters, and that his paintings are not idyllic but convey a serious message. Atsushi Kaga is one of the artists sponsored by the Montblanc Young Artist World Patronage. This project gives young and emerging artists the opportunity to present their work to a broad and international audience and the art scene, using more than 400 Montblanc Boutiques worldwide as art galleries, all of which exhibit a particular work of art simultaneously for a few weeks.
The 2019 painting After Whistler, September, Kyoto achieved ten times its estimate at HKD 400,000, or the equivalent of about US$50,000, at the 20th and 21st Century Art Afternoon Session at Christies in Hong Kong on May 25, 2021. On October 10, 2021, Atsushi Kaga 加賀温 | I think it was a nightmare. 我認為是一場噩夢 sold in the Contemporary Art Day Sale at Sothebys in Hong Kong for HKD 1,764,000, equivalent to about USD 226,000.
