Charlie Chaplin - Mr. Brainwash.

Charlie Chaplin is a mixed media artwork with acrylic paint, stencils (graffiti) and spray paint by Mr. Brainwash. True to his leitmotif “Life is Beautiful”, the world famous comedian is of course ideally suited to convey this message. Born as Charlie Spencer Chaplin, Charlie Chaplin is considered one of the greatest comedians who have ever been in the world. A world-famous personality, he is known for his exceptional comic timing and ability to speak without words. In the history of motion pictures, Charlie Chaplin is one of the most significant personalities.

Among the multitude of characters portrayed by Charlie Chaplin, one of the most important was the role of the tramp. However, his characters in the roles he played were also often firemen, salesmen, waiters, etc. A more apt description of his character portrayal would be that of the archetypal outsider, usually ostracized by “fine society,” unlucky in love, and the like. He was also portrayed as a survivor, someone able to wriggle out of his troubles and blithely set off on new adventures.

In the last years of his life, Charlie Chaplin was awarded several honors. In 1972 he accepted the Special Academy Award for his immeasurable influence on the development of film into the art form of this century. His last public appearance was in 1975, when he was knighted. Charlie Chaplin passed away on December 25, 1977. Charlie Chaplin was not only a writer and producer, but also a musician, played a variety of instruments, and was the author of at least four books. He was truly a remarkable personality whom the world remembers with great affection.

Mr. Brainwash repeatedly refers to artworks by his mentor Banksy and interprets them in his own way. In Mr. Brainwash’s works, the original white background is typically colorfully decorated with collages, silkscreens, stencils and comic books. The cheerful and carefree is thus even more clarified true to the motto of Mr. Brainwash: “Life is Beautiful” or “Follow Your Dreams”.

Hardly any other street artist has experienced a comparably rapid rise as the Frenchman Thierry Guetta aka Mr. Brainwash, born in 1966 in Garges-lès-Gonesse. His path to becoming the most successful artist of recent years is closely linked to the name Banksy and his Oscar-winning film Exit Through the Gift Shop: In this documentary, Banksy encourages Guetta, who was still unknown at the time, to become active as an artist himself under the pseudonym Mr. Brainwash. The rumor that the Frenchman Brainwash is a purely fictitious person invented by Banksy and that his works are actually created by Banksy is therefore persistent.

In 2022, the Mr. Brainwash Art Museum will open in Los Angeles, more precisely in Beverly Hills, in a building designed by Richard Meier. The unstoppable rise of the street art star continues.

A monumental Mr. Brainwash Charlie Chaplin was auctioned off at Phillips de Pury in New York on May 14, 2010 at a remarkable price of around $ 125,000 US. The artwork was 214 x 180 cm.
