Working with light

In her black and white photographs Jana documents the bodies of the people in front of her camera and their feelings at the time of pulling the trigger. Even in this day and age of digital photography, she still works with natural light, giving her work a flawlessness that is shaded in gray and that pushes reality into the background. Her international fellowships include FH-Dortmund, Germany; UfAK-Vienna, Austria; and FAMU-Prague, Czech Republic. She exhibits her work in Slovakia, Austria, Germany, France and Poland. Jana lives and works in Bratislava.  Even in today’s world of digital photography, Jana Ilkova prefers images with gray tones and natural light and develops her photographs by hand. People are captured in her works in fragments and gestures. The human body with its subjective uniqueness, its infinite feelings, shapes and forms is the focus of her work.
