Elizabeth Peyton, one of the most recognized artists of her generation derived her lithograph Colin from her 1998 full-color portrait titled "Silver Colin." Elizabeth Peyton - Colin

Colin is a lithograph by Elizabeth Peyton. It shows a portrait of Colin de Land. Colin de Land (1955-2003) was a New York art dealer and gallerist who promoted wide-ranging experiments in art, founding American Fine Arts, Co. in 1986 and running the gallery until his death in 2003 at the age of 47. De Land grew up in Union City, NJ, and studied philosophy and linguistics at NYU before founding his first gallery in March 1982, originally called American Fine Arts, Co.

Elizabeth Peyton is a contemporary American artist known for her intimate and emotionally charged portraits. Born in Danbury, Connecticut in 1965, Peyton developed an early interest in art and attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City in the late 1980s. It was during this time that she began to gain recognition for her distinctive style, which blends elements of portraiture, pop culture, and classical painting techniques.

Peyton’s work often depicts friends, celebrities, and historical figures, rendered with a delicate touch and a keen sense of color and composition. Her subjects range from iconic figures like Kurt Cobain and Queen Elizabeth II to close friends and lovers, capturing moments of vulnerability and beauty with equal grace.

Throughout her career, Peyton has worked across various mediums, including painting, drawing, and printmaking, continually pushing the boundaries of portraiture and exploring themes of identity, desire, and memory. Her work has been exhibited extensively in galleries and museums around the world, earning her widespread acclaim and cementing her reputation as one of the leading artists of her generation.

In addition to her artistic practice, Peyton is also a passionate collector and curator, with a deep appreciation for the history of art and its ongoing dialogue with contemporary culture. She continues to inspire and influence artists and audiences alike with her evocative portrayals of the human experience.
