David Gerstein - New Pond 2.

New Pond 2 is a 3-D wall sculpture by David Gerstein in 3 layers from 2021. The water lily pond with the koi carp is of course a homage to the artist Claude Monet with the famous water lily paintings. New Pond 2 can be combined with one or more works from the New Pond series (4 sculptures in total) to create a waterscene wall sculpture up to 460 cm (180 inch) wide.

“New Pond 2” is a captivating 3-D wall sculpture by the renowned Israeli artist David Gerstein, celebrated for his dynamic and vibrant works that blend traditional artistic forms with a modern, playful twist. In “New Pond 2,” Gerstein brings to life a serene and enchanting blue pond, filled with the tranquil presence of Koi fish and delicate water lilies, rendered in his distinctive style.

The sculpture is an explosion of color and movement, capturing the essence of a peaceful pond teeming with life. The pond itself is depicted in a rich palette of blues, evoking the depth and stillness of water. Gerstein’s use of layered metal pieces creates a sense of depth and dimension, allowing the viewer to feel as though they are gazing into a real pond, with fish swimming just beneath the surface.

The Koi fish, depicted in various shades of orange, red, and white, glide gracefully through the water. Their sleek bodies are captured mid-motion, giving the impression of continuous movement and life. The fish are positioned at different angles and depths, creating a dynamic interplay of form and space. The vibrant colors of the Koi contrast beautifully with the cool blues of the pond, making them the focal point of the piece.

Interspersed among the Koi are the delicate water lilies, their white and pink petals floating serenely on the water’s surface. These flowers add a touch of softness and tranquility to the composition, balancing the energy of the swimming fish. Gerstein’s attention to detail is evident in the way the lilies and their leaves are crafted, each petal and stem rendered with precision and care.

“New Pond 2” is more than just a visual representation; it is an invitation to immerse oneself in a moment of calm and reflection. The 3-D aspect of the sculpture encourages viewers to engage with the work from multiple angles, discovering new details and perspectives as they move around it. This interactivity is a hallmark of Gerstein’s work, drawing the viewer into a deeper connection with the art.

The sculpture is a testament to Gerstein’s ability to merge art with life, capturing the beauty of nature in a form that is both static and full of movement. “New Pond 2” is a celebration of the natural world, brought to life through Gerstein’s unique artistic vision, and a reminder of the tranquility and beauty that can be found in the simple moments of life.

David Gerstein – Master of multilayer sculptures

In David Gerstein’s multi-layered works of art, the boundary between the two-dimensionality of painting and the three-dimensionality of sculpture becomes blurred. The works of David Gerstein captivate above all by their lively colorfulness. Most often, the human being in motion is found as the central theme of his sculptures and objects and as a point of departure. Tourists on 5th Avenue, marathon runners, bicyclists, roller coasters or dancing butterflies make the viewer virtually swing along. Meanwhile, the steel sculptures are cut out using laser technology. To ensure that the sculptures give pleasure for a long time, especially in the outdoor area, they are painted with Standohyd Plus a special varnish recommended for automotive repairs from the Standox company in Germany. Countless details that allow the subject to explore and explore again and again round out his objects, which in recent years have experienced a solid price development. The artist David Gerstein turns eighty years in 2024.
