||In 2020 there will be a new Alex Katz exhibition at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid/Spain.
In 2021 Voorlinden presented the first solo exhibition of the legendary American painter Alex Katz (1927) in the Netherlands. He was born in the 1950s and 1960s - at the height of Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art - and for decades has been striving to transcend his contemporaries with his timeless paintings, which cannot be captured in any genre. His highly recognizable signature is characterized by large-format canvases that look like billboards on which he applies paint with limited visual means and color fields.
Katz is interested in capturing fleeting moments, fragments from a film or a poem, so to speak. His most important muse is his wife Ada, whom he has captured in over 200 paintings in a magnificent yet intimate manner. The exhibition in Voorlinden consists of an ahistorical selection of earlier and more recent works, including the dynamic homage to Degas 14 from 2018, and the museum looks forward to introducing the Dutch public to this master painter who is unique in his pictorial language. Voorlinden is one of the few Dutch museums that collects works by Katz.
