Cover Girl - Kate Moss - Pop Icon.

The artwork “Cover Girl – Kate Moss” by Mr. Brainwash shows the enfant terrible of supermodels, Kate Moss. Just as Marilyn Monroe became an icon of the baby boomers, Kate Moss has become a role model for Generation X and beyond. The idea for the work came to Mr. Brainwash in 2012. During the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, before the start of the Games, a huge mural appeared in London showing the portrait of Kate Moss.

It was located in New Oxford Street, London. Since then Kate Moss belongs to Mr. Brainwash like Marilyn Monroe belongs to Andy Warhol. The fashion model is also closer to the generation of street and urban art collectors than Marilyn is to the younger generation, who are hardly known from her films today. Kate Moss embodies the dream of many young girls to become famous. She founded the era of supermodels in the 90s, which included Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell, among others.

She became famous with her advertising campaign for Calvin Klein. In the course of her career it soon becomes clear that Kate Moss is not the good girl next door and so she soon becomes the “enfant terrible” of the fashion scene. Together with the Calvin Klein company she creates the “Heroine Chic” – black made-up eye rims combined with an angular, androgynous look. The extreme slimness, which almost borders on anorexia, did not suit everyone at that time. However, Kate Moss was able to stand out from her competitors and thus stay in the conversation. The model is still in demand today.

Mr. Brainwashs believes that “art has no rules” and has developed his own form of “graffiti hybrid” that brings together Pop Art and Street Art. He often uses familiar motifs and images from pop culture and undermines the original context of the work by adapting and blending different iconographies. The basic element of Street Art is the use of stencils, i.e. templates that serve to spread ideas in different cities, countries or even continents. Mr. Brainwash has put the visual language of street art on paper – through screen printing in combination with stencils his works are available in editions and series.

Mr. Brainwash always refers to his mentor’s artwork and interprets it in his own way. The original white background in Mr. Brainwash’s work is typically colorful with collages, silkscreens, stencils, and comic books. The cheerful and light-hearted is thus made even more apparent, true to Mr. Brainwash’s motto: “Life is Beautiful” or “Follow Your Dreams”.

Hardly any other street art artist has experienced such a rapid rise as the Frenchman Thierry Guetta aka Mr. Brainwash, born 1966 in Garges-lès-Gonesse. His path to becoming the most successful artist of recent years is closely linked to the name Banksy and his Oscar-winning film Exit Through the Gift Shop: In this documentary Banksy encourages the then still unknown Guetta to become active as an artist himself under the pseudonym Mr. Brainwash. The rumor persists that the Frenchman Brainwash is a purely fictional person invented by Banksy and that his works are actually created by Banksy.

International Shooting Star – Mr. Brainwash

Mr. Brainwash rocked the art world with his innovative and fearless style. He uses elements from pop art’s past and the raw components of his street art beginnings to create larger-than-life exhibitions and collaborations. Mr. Brainwash’s imaginative construction of gallery exhibitions and art shows throughout the world has continued to attract the attention of critics and celebrities alike. Navigating between worlds of film, celebrity culture, music, and sports, Mr. Brainwash has designed album covers for Madonna, Rick Ross, and KYGO.

His artwork was featured in films and television productions such as Molly’s Game, Billions, Shameless, and the Kardashians. Mr. Brainwash’s talents are showcased in creative partnerships with powerhouse brands like Hublot, Coca Cola, and Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee. He also collaborated with world known soccer player Pelé, who joined the artist in splattering paint on select artwork. While undertaking worldwide solo exhibitions and residency at Art Basel each year, Mr. Brainwash creates opportunities to engage the public in the world of art. To that end, Mr. Brainwash has traveled across the globe for speaking engagements and seminars including addresses at UCLA, Columbia University and Semi Permanent, Australia’s largest creative conference.

Mr. Brainwash’s passion extends his commitment to giving back to the community. He continues to donate artwork in support of the Los Angeles LGBT center, created commemorative 9/11 murals to honor the victims, and partnered with Product RED to raise AIDS awareness. Mr. Brainwash also lends his yearly support to organizations such as the Prince’s Trust for the benefit of vulnerable youth. He met with former First Lady Michelle Obama in support of her organization, “Let Girls Learn” that helps adolescent girls attend and complete school. He was also honored to meet privately with Pope Francis in Rome to raise funds for Scholas, the Pope’s personal foundation to serve the youth of the world.
